Mike Ploog July 13, 1942- Best known for Marvel Comics WEREWOLF BY NIGHT and his run on PLANET OF THE APES in the black and white magazine put out by Curtis Publications.
Growing up I got my comics from a local Mom and Pop store that was across the street from my Elementary School (Oxford Street School in the Woo) and later West Side Pharmacy on Pleasant Street about a mile from my house. Buying comics in those days was a crap shoot— you didn’t know if you’d get the next issue or not of a series you were following. They didn’t carry everything either— I’m pretty sure my Mom and Pop spot didn’t carry Marvel Comics— and since I was a Batman freak I probably wouldn’t have noticed anyway, but one day, my older sister brought home copies of TOMB OF DRACULA and WEREWOLF BY NIGHT from Marvel Comics and I was blown away.
The art shown here is going to heavily favor WEREWOLF BY NIGHT because I love that run of his, but I’ll try and add some variety.
Ploog got his start as an assistant to Will Eisner, and his influence is clearly seen.
