SWB140- GREAT COMIC ARTISTS – KELLEY JONES
Kelley Jones B. Jul 23, 1962 – he broke the style when it came to Batman– harkening back to the version Bernie Wrightson had done in the mid 1970s, Kelley angered a lot of fans who found his work to be too outrageous but he had his fans and stayed on the book for a number of years.
I liked his style because it was so out there– and again going back to Batman’s shared roots with Dick Tracy, the character works best if he’s set in a nightmarish cartoon world.
WHY: His Batman lived in a world that looked like Tim Burton had painted it.
WHEN: Late 80s early 90s.
